Turkish delight at new Atatürk complex
TURKEY. One of the world's most impressive airport retail complexes was officially opened in Instanbul, Turkey last month*.
The new departure terminal at Atatürk International airport features about 4,100 sq.m. (44,130 sq.ft) of retail space including a 1,170 sq.m. (12,595 sq.ft) duty-free store and several smaller shops. In addition, there is a 700 sq.m. (7,535 sq.ft) shop-in-shop area called "The Golden Touch", which features top international brands such as Bvlgari, Versace, i Santi as well as Salvatore Ferragamo.
The area also includes Turkish brands such as Vakko, Urban Travel and Navigator, together with an impressive Bazaar store selling high-quality local items. The stores are part of an 8,000 sq.m. leisure area designed to resemble a well-known Turkish street.
Gebr Heinemann and local partner Unifree have a supply and management contract with operator ATU at the location.
Speaking to DFNI at the opening, Gebr Heinemann director, Claus Heinemann said, "This is what you can achieve when you have space for retail from the time you build the terminal."
Many of the world's leading suppliers also attended the opening.
