Talbot Consultants International Inc. were retained by Cambridge Shopping Centres to conduct a market feasibility and impact study in support of a re-zoning application for the next expansion of the 800,000 sq. ft. Upper Canada Mall. In addition we were recently asked, to examine the possibility of adding major destination-oriented power retailers as part of that expansion. This project entailed identifying those retailers that will prosper in the short and long term and recommending which existing retailers should be retained and which terminated. In addition it required us to identify which additional retailers, (by retail category, price point and name), would be needed to fill the identified "gaps" in the market in order to ensure Upper Canada Mall's continued dominance of its market. A substantial consumer research component was required in order to ensure that the needs of the trade area would be met. The re-zoning was subsequently approved and the expansion fully leased.
